Summary
Honorlock can be installed on devices using the following operating systems: Windows 10, Windows 11, MacOSX 10.14 and higher, and ChromeOS 93 and higher. You can verify that you are able to run Honorlock by going to their Support page and using the Run System Check option at the bottom of the page. This page provides some guidance on how to update your system to a more current version.
Tips
Before you begin, be aware that the upgrade process can take a significant amount of time and will require access to the internet to download the install files. The following recommendations may help make your upgrade process go more smoothly:
- Perform a backup of important files and folders before upgrading. Upgrades are intended to be non-destructive by nature, but having a backup is a sound practice to ensure you retain important files.
- Connect your system to stable power, especially laptop/mobile devices.
- Ensure your system has consistent internet access.
- Set aside time to perform the upgrade when you are not facing deadlines or class sessions that are time sensitive. Upgrade timing varies from system to system depending on system resources, network speed and other factors. Be sure to set aside ample time to have the files download and install to complete the upgrade.

Upgrade Options for Apple macOS
Before starting – find out what version of macOS you are currently running. The steps to identify your current version can be found using the steps in Apple Support article, Find Out Which MacOS your Mac is Using. Apple uses version numbers like 10.13 along with friendly names like “High Sierra” to indicate the versions of their Operating systems.
After identifying your version of macOS, follow the steps in this article from Apple, Update macOS on Mac, to update your Operating System. Apple macOS upgrades are free. You may need to sign in to the Apple App Store with an Apple ID to download the installer, but this is a no-cost transaction.
If your system is running a much earlier version of macOS – full upgrades to the Operating System may be available. It is recommended that you upgrade to the latest version of macOS that is supported by your system. The steps to upgrade to the latest version of macOS can be found in the How to download macOS article from Apple.
Some systems may be unable to run the very latest version of macOS – but will have a version available to them that can operate with modern web services and security protocols. Keep in mind that very out of date systems may need to perform an upgrade to an intermediary version before upgrading to the latest version. Apple publishes the following statement that may apply to your system: “To upgrade from Lion or Mountain Lion, first upgrade to El Capitan, then upgrade to Catalina”.
As a general guideline, nearly all Mac systems released after 2009 can run up to macOS 10.13 (High Sierra). Nearly all Mac systems released after 2012 can run the latest version of macOS (Catalina).
Upgrade Options for Microsoft Windows
Before starting, use the steps in the Microsoft Help Article, Which Version of Windows Operating System am I Running, to find out which version of Windows you are running.
Microsoft has published a detailed help article covering major questions regarding upgrading to Windows 10.
Not all systems are capable of running Windows 10. Microsoft publishes the minimum requirements to install and run Windows 10 in this help article.
Upgrades to Microsoft Windows 10 are not typically free. However, UNF Students can obtain copy of Windows 10 Education for no cost through the Kivuto Service in MyWings.
To get a copy of Windows 10 for free, go to:
- Login to UNF MyWings.
- On the main MyWings page, perform a search for Kivuto and click the ‘Kivuto Software’ search result to open the Kivuto site.
- On the Kivuto Main Page – locate and click the title for Windows 10.
- On the Windows 10 page, add the free Windows 10 Education edition to your cart.
Enter the cart and complete the zero cost purchase. - After completing the purchase you will receive a license key or the key will be attached to your Microsoft Account. Use this license key or Microsoft Account that it is connected to during the activation process after installing Windows 10.
The Windows 10 Upgrade is performed using installation files from Microsoft. This help article details how to obtain and install Windows 10 for your system.
Important notes:
- Microsoft Windows may install as an in-place upgrade – but it also may require a full reinstallation of the operating system, removing what is in place – including files, documents, favorites, etcetera. You should perform a backup of important files and folders before upgrading.
- Print out or write down your License Key and be sure you know your Microsoft Account credentials before starting the upgrade process as your old system will be inaccessible during the upgrade process.
