Important
After course copying a Canvas course that was paired with a Connect course you will have to pair the new Canvas course and Connect sections. Course copying does not automatically do this and therefore it is not advised to pair your SANDBOX course with Connect courses.
Summary
McGraw-Hill Connect (MHC) is a course management and adaptive learning solution that enhances your unique voice and teaching style. This support articles covers how to install and use MHC in your Canvas Course. This article covers how to enable, pair, and sync MGH Connect in your Canvas course.
Enabling McGraw-Hill Connect
McGraw-Hill Connect is available to all courses in Canvas and does not require you to add the external tool at the course level. These instructions will guide you through the process of enabling the MHC integration in your course. Please note that since this is a 3rd-party integration the steps may change at any time.
For hands on assistance it is recommended that you contact your MH rep for they are trained on all of their product offerings. If you are stuck please contact CIRT or visit McGraw-Hill’s website.
You have two options on how to make MHC available to yourself and students in your course. The first method is to add it to the course navigation menu. The second option is to add a link in one of the course modules. Both methods direct the user to the same MH site and there is no advantage in using one method over the other.
Nav Menu Method

To add McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration to your course navigation menu go to your course Settings (1) and click the Navigation tab (2). Drag the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration menu item from the bottom list into the top list (3).

Course Module Method
Starting in the Modules area of your course, select the module you would like to add the link to. You can add the link to multiple modules following the same steps and each link will direct the students to the same MHC section.

Click the + button at the top right of the module and the Add to Module pop up window will appear.

From the drop down menu select External Tool (1). Scroll down the list of tools until you see McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration (2), click it. You do not need to change any of the URL information but you can enter in a different name for the link if you desire. Click the button to load in a new tab (3). Click the blue Add Item button (4).

Be sure to publish the link within the module so your students can access it.
Pairing McGraw-Hill Connect
These instructions assume that you have already completed the above steps to enable MHC in your Canvas course.

Click the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration link. Depending on how you setup the link your course this may be from your course navigation menu or from a module link.

If this is your first time using MHC in your course you will receive the above window and you must click the blue Authorize button to continue.

Click the Pair with a Connect Section link. If you have never used MHC in any of your Canvas courses prior to now you will be prompted to login to McGraw-Hill’s website. If you do not have an MH login you will need to set it up. If you need assistance with the MH login, you will need to contact your McGraw-Hill representative.

The next step in pairing your course is to decide on using an existing MHC section or create a new one. If you have taught this course before and you simply want to reuse the prior material, click the second option. If you have adopted a new book and you have not already set it up in McGraw-Hill Connect, click option 1. For this example we will assume the MHC section already exists (most common scenario) and we will continue with option 2.
A list of all of your McGraw-Hill Connect courses will be displayed. Locate the appropriate course and click it.

You are now given the option to use the existing section (1) or you can select Add a new section (2) and it will create a copy of the section. The second option is desirable if you know you want to make changes to the MHC course without altering the original. For this example we will continue with option 1. Click the gold Save button.
A list of all of your McGraw-Hill Connect courses will be displayed. Locate the appropriate course and click it.

You have now successfully paired your McGraw Hill Connect course with your Canvas course! On the confirmation page you can click the go to section home page link to access the MHC course content. If you caught a mistake you can unpair the courses immediately from this window. Click the Return to University of North Florida link to return to your Canvas course.
Now that your courses are paired, as an instructor you have more options when clicking on the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration link.

Now from within your Canvas course you can sync the Connect grades to Canvas, unpair the courses, or directly access your Connect section. Students will not have these options and can only access the Connect section.
Syncing McGraw-Hill Connect
This section assumes you have already paired your MHC and Canvas course and setup graded assignments in your Connect section following the above instructions.

Click the McGraw-Hill Connect Deep Integration link. Depending on how you setup the link your course this may be from your course navigation menu or from a module link.

From the Quick Links page click Manual sync.

Click the blue Sync button to continue, or Cancel to exit.
Manually Graded Assignments
McGraw-Hill Connect assignments that require manual grading will automatically display in the student’s grade book as a zero until they are graded. Once the assignment has been graded in Connect, the student grade will update in Canvas Gradebook to the correct score. McGraw-Hill is aware of this issue and has not provided an ETA on when it will be fixed.
Workaround
This problem only affects MHC assignments that are set to auto sync with Canvas. Disable the auto sync feature for any assignments that require manual grading. Once all submissions and grading are completed in MH Connect, enable the auto sync to transfer the grades to Canvas.
