What is VoiceThread?
VoiceThread is a web-based tool that allows users to create presentations that combine different media formats, like images, documents, and videos, and then enable discussion and collaboration around those presentations.
- Multimedia Presentations: You can include various media types in your VoiceThread presentations, such as documents, PDFs, images, and videos.
- Interactive Discussions: VoiceThread allows viewers to leave comments on your presentations using microphones, webcams, text, or uploaded audio files. This fosters asynchronous discussions.
- Cloud-Based: There’s no software to install; you can access VoiceThread through a web browser on almost any device with an internet connection.
- Sharing Options: Keep a VoiceThread private, share it with specific people, or open it up to the entire world.
Scope and Cost
VoiceThread is scoped at the institutional level and is available to all UNF faculty using Canvas. VocieTherad allows faculty to create and design multimedia presentations or interactive assignments that incorporate videos, images, documents, and more.
Canvas Integration
VoiceThread is available to all instructors in all courses, however, it is only accessible from the External Tool feature within a Canvas Module and/or Canvas Assignment. Once enabled, the VoiceThread integration allows for a seamless user experience in regard to creating and accessing content.
VoiceThread LTI features include:
- Course roster syncs with VoiceThread roster
- Create and assign VoiceThread assignments
- VoiceThread assignment points are pushed to Canvas Gradebook
Requirements
VoiceThread is a cloud application and will run in your web browser, so there is no software to install. The only system requirement is an up-to-date version of a user’s web browser. VoiceThread recommends either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.
Caveats
VoiceThread does have a robust free-tier account which allows faculty to create up to five VoiceThread presentations/assignments only. Upgrading to a paid account unlocks more features like unlimited VoiceThread creation, student management tools for educators, and advanced commenting options. The specific costs depend on the type of account needed, and VoiceThread offers a Single Instructor License and Enterprise Site Licenses.
Support Report
The implementation of a grading system for CIRT support not only facilitates efficient resource allocation but also fosters transparency in our service delivery. By self-grading our support levels as A+, B+, and C+, we provide faculty with a transparent framework that outlines the expected level of assistance they can anticipate when reaching out for help.
A support grade of “B+” represents a strong level of assistance, with our team possessing a solid understanding of the application or integration. While not reaching the pinnacle of expertise, “B+” nevertheless indicates proficiency and competence in addressing a wide range of issues. CIRT’s internal documentation remains robust, and our team is well-equipped to troubleshoot various challenges. Although there may be instances when reaching out to the vendor becomes necessary for more complex issues, causing support delays, especially when we lack administrative access. Users of applications and/or integrations with a “B+” grade can usually expect comprehensive resolutions to their issues when such resolutions are possible.
