Important Note: Faculty interested in adopting Access Pearson and courseware may not need this LTI in order to purchase/access materials. Depending on your textbook/courseware, you may be able to access your courseware through Willo Labs. Faculty are encouraged to work with the university bookstore and/or their Pearson representative to ensure proper integration, pricing, and access for students. Please email cirtlab@unf.edu if you have and questions or concerns.
What is Access Pearson?
Access Pearson is an LTI Integration for Canvas is a classroom management system that allows instructors to seamlessly connect their Pearson course materials, like MyLab & Mastering or Revel, with their Canvas course.
- Pearson MyLab and Mastering is a web-based learning platform designed for instructors and students. It provides a variety of interactive tools and resources to supplement traditional classroom learning, particularly for courses that rely heavily on practice and application.
- Pearson Revel is an interactive digital learning environment designed to replace traditional textbooks that goes beyond just being a digital version of a book by incorporating features to enhance student engagement and understanding.
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Students can access their Pearson materials directly within Canvas without needing to log in separately.
- Grade Syncing: Grades earned on Pearson assignments and assessments are automatically transferred to the Canvas gradebook, reducing manual work for instructors.
- Assignment Linking: Instructors can easily link to specific assignments, course tools, or eText sections within their Pearson course from within Canvas. This creates a cohesive learning path for students.
Scope and Cost
Pearson is scoped at the institutional level and is available to all UNF faculty using Canvas who wish to use Pearson’s core curriculum or supplementary learning materials.
- Pearson MyLab is available for a variety of subjects, with a strong emphasis on STEM fields like mathematics, statistics, and engineering, and it offers course materials created by subject-matter experts, along with interactive exercises, simulations, and other digital tools to enhance understanding.
- Pearson Revel is an enhanced, digital textbook that goes beyond static text and images by integrating multimedia content like videos, simulations, and interactive exercises directly within the text.
Pearson is a student-paid model where students receive access to the platform by purchasing an access code through the Campus Bookstore or via Willo Labs (depending on the materials being adopted).
Pearson does not set a single price for all textbooks, and prices for textbooks varies. Faculty are encouraged to work with the university bookstore and/or their Pearson representative to ensure proper integration, pricing, and access for students.
Canvas Integration
Access Pearson is already installed in every UNF Canvas course; however, it needs to be activated from the course settings navigation tab. In addition, faculty will need to have created a teacher account with learning content selected prior to integration of Pearson with Canvas.
Pearson LTI features include:
- Access to e-textbook and various other learning materials.
- Access to pre-built assignments or faculty can create their own.
- Provides personalized learning for students to practice and reinforces concepts.
- Interactive online assessments and track student progress through the platform’s analytics.
- Pearson Gradebook sync with Canvas Gradebook.
- Mobile-friendly.
Requirements
Pearson is an in-browser tool that works for all Mac and PC devices – as well as Chromebook. Faculty must have an account with Pearson to use this tool, and students must purchase an access code from the UNF Bookstore to access the platform.
Caveats
Faculty and students must have an account with Pearson to use this tool.
Support Report
The implementation of a grading system for CIRT support not only facilitates efficient resource allocation but also fosters transparency in our service delivery. By self-grading our support levels as A+, B+, and C+, we provide faculty with a transparent framework that outlines the expected level of assistance they can anticipate when reaching out for help.
A support grade of “B+” represents a strong level of assistance, with our team possessing a solid understanding of the application or integration. While not reaching the pinnacle of expertise, “B+” nevertheless indicates proficiency and competence in addressing a wide range of issues. CIRT’s internal documentation remains robust, and our team is well-equipped to troubleshoot various challenges. Although there may be instances when reaching out to the vendor becomes necessary for more complex issues, causing support delays, especially when we lack administrative access. Users of applications and/or integrations with a “B+” grade can usually expect comprehensive resolutions to their issues when such resolutions are possible.
