What Is Kanopy?
Kanopy is a streaming service (similar to Netflix) that offers a wide selection of films, documentaries, and educational videos. It’s available to all faculty and students with an n-number via the Thomas G. Carpenter Library.
Kanopy platform focuses on independent films, classic cinema, and educational titles, making it a valuable resource for both entertainment and academic purposes.
Special features allow users to create clips and playlists and share and embed films. Some Kanopy films, but not all, have public performance rights outside of the classroom. Librarians can identify which films include public performance rights outside of the classroom.
Scope and Cost
Kanopy is provided by the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and provides users access to high-quality content for free, requiring only an n-number to log in.

If you want to watch Kanopy off campus, in a browser, or on a mobile device, you will need to sign up at Kanopy’s website. After logging in to your Kanopy Account, you will be asked to associate your account with the UNF library.
Canvas Integration
Instructors have the option of linking to Kanopy videos, or embedding clips or entire films into a Canvas course space using sharing tools found under each Kanopy film. This integration makes it easier for instructors to assign films or documentaries as part of their coursework, streamlining access for students. Users can create links to specific videos or playlists, provide context or discussion prompts, and track student engagement with the content.
Requirements
On a Windows computer, Mac, or Chromebook, you can use Kanopy in your web browser at kanopy.com. We recommend using the latest version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. An internet connection is required to watch films on Kanopy.
Users can also download the Kanopy mobile app on supported mobile devices:
- iPhones/iPads with iOS 11.0+ (get it from the Apple App Store)
- Android devices with Android 7.1+ (get it on Google Play)
- Amazon Fire tablets with FireOS 6+ (get it from the Amazon Appstore)
Caveats
The library of Kanopy content is curated and provided by UNF librarians; if you are interested in accessing a film that is not available on Kanopy, send your request to ask@unf.libanswers.com.
Support Report
The implementation of a grading system for CIRT support not only facilitates efficient resource allocation but also fosters transparency in our service delivery. By self-grading our support levels as A+, B+, and C+, we provide faculty with a transparent framework that outlines the expected level of assistance they can anticipate when reaching out for help.
A support grade of “A+” represents the best of our assistance capabilities. This grade signifies that our team has extensive familiarity with the app and/or integration. We have excellent internal documentation, and our support team feels comfortable troubleshooting most issues without having to reach out to the vendor for assistance. Because a majority of issues are handled internally, users of applications and/or integrations with an “A+” grade can expect swift and comprehensive resolutions when possible.
External Resources
To further empower UNF instructors, we provide direct links to the vendor’s support material, ensuring you have access to official resources and expert guidance. Furthermore, we curate and share external support documentation discovered online that may offer valuable insights or alternative perspectives. Our commitment is to provide you with a holistic support experience, combining our internal expertise with external resources to empower you in navigating the intricacies of this application.
