Honorlock

What is Honorlock?

Honorlock is the online proctoring service adopted for use with Distance Learning courses. Honorlock provides services similar to what a student would experience when visiting a testing center, with identity verification and capture of that ID, and monitoring and recording of the testing environment, which will include a room scan of the surrounding exam environment. The service uses a Chrome extension and records the webcam and screen activity during the exam period.

Scope and Cost

Honorlock is an online proctoring tool that is scoped at the course level, and it is available to all UNF faculty teaching a distance learning course. Honorlock provides services similar to what a student would experience when visiting a testing center, with identity verification and capture of that ID, and monitoring and recording of the testing environment, which will include a room scan of the surrounding exam environment.

Per University Policy, Honorlock is not to be utilize by faculty teaching an in-person or hybrid course, and it should not be copied forward to any Canvas course. Costs for Honorlock is paid from the Distance Learning Fee associated with the student’s tuition.

Canvas Integration

Honorlock is a whitelisted integration currently scoped to online, distance learning courses only, and it can be made available upon request.

Canvas integrations include:

  • Works with Windows, Mac, Chromebook, but is not available for iPads
  • Requires download and installation of the Honorlock Browser Extension from the Google Play Store
  • Customizable proctoring settings
  • “Locks down” students into a secured testing browser
  • Removes user access to keyboard commands, right-click options, other desktop and web browser applications, and/or access to A.I. web browser tools
  • Utilizes user’s webcam to record and proctor the examination
  • Utilizes user’s screen capturing capabilities to record and proctor the examination
  • Faculty access to a dashboard to review student examination sessions
  • A.I. proctoring system which uses Computer Vision Algorithms to review and flag any suspicious events that warrants faculty review
  • Access to 24-7 Chat Support

Requirements

Instructors of Distance Learning courses must reach out to CIRT to request that Honorlock be installed in their course(s).

Students will be required to download and install the Honorlock Browser Extension for Google Chrome only usage. Students will not be able to use any other web browsers except for Google Chrome.

Caveats

  • Honorlock does not definitively prove that academic misconduct occurs – Instructors must review any ‘flagged’ behavior, taking into consideration any information the student may have provided about their test-taking environment. They should make a determination about whether the behavior is acceptable based on predetermined testing parameters, as well as a range of other factors such as context, intent, severity, consistency, and mitigating factors.

  • Honorlock can only be enabled for Canvas Quizzes; it cannot be assigned to any Canvas Assignment or Discussion Posts.

Support Report

By self-grading our support levels as A+, B+, and C+, we provide faculty with a transparent framework that outlines the expected level of assistance they can anticipate when reaching out for help.

A support grade of “A+” represents the best of our assistance capabilities. This grade signifies that our team has extensive familiarity with the app and/or integration. We have excellent internal documentation, and our support team feels comfortable troubleshooting most issues without having to reach out to the vendor for assistance. Because a majority of issues are handled internally, users of applications and/or integrations with an “A+” grade can expect swift and comprehensive resolutions when possible.
